What Does a Neurologist Do?

A neurologist is a medical doctor who has trained in the diagnosis and treatment of nervous system disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles.

Neurologists perform examinations of the nerves of the head and neck. They test muscle strength and movement, balance, gait (the way you walk), and reflexes.

They also test for sensation, memory, speech, language, and the other ways that we sense our world and communicate.

Board Certification requires the doctor to have a high degree of competency in the practice of neurology at the time of certification
